A brief history of the area
The Henties Bay story begins in 1488, when Bartolomeu Dias sailed the Atlantic coast and discovered the abundance of fish in the area. The town is named in honour of Hendrik Stefanus van der Merwe, who came across the area in 1929 while looking for water in the midst of a rhinoceros hunt.
Climate
As is the case in much of Namibia, Henties Bay doesn't get much rain, with the monthly average from May to December being 0mm of precipitation. January to April also sees negligible rainfall. If you're not a fan of a hot climate, Henties Bay will be a fantastic home for you. February and March are the hottest months of the year, when temperatures climb to an average of 25°C. The coldest months are September and October, which are hardly different with the mercury commonly rising to 21°C.
